About

Retired in 2015 on my 62nd birthday.  Grew up in central New York.  Family traveled and camped in the northeast by car a lot.  First helicopter flight in 6th grade. First plane ride in 9th grade.  After college I moved around.  Maryland, Georgia, San Diego, New Jersey, Japan, Washington, Japan again, then settled down in Oceanside CA.

Enjoy:

  • Motorcycle journeys, though I am in no way a “biker” in the stereotypical sense.
  • Wine snob.
  • Reading.  Scify and fantasy.  Early fanatic of Lord of The Rings.
  • Learning trivia.

Do not enjoy:

  • Working around the house.
  • Gardening.

My plans for retirement harken back to my youth, when I did a lot of camping and traveling. Moreover, throughout much of my life I drove motorcycles and did a massive 27,000 ride in 2016. But now I’ve hung up my helmet and pursue worldly travels via plane, boat, bus, and car.

My wife Yoriko is only willing to travel to developed nations, so many of my trips will be done as a single traveler.

I hope to share my adventures via this blog.  My parents spent over five years traveling to Europe and back on a sailboat.  My mother documented the trip in a diary that I’ve had the pleasure to read.  I hope to do the same, with the added bonus of combining words with pictures.  My parents’ voluminous picture album is comprised of 8+ slide bins, without commentary.  I do not enjoy myself in pictures, so I won’t mess up beautiful views with my presence.
